Small update

Some sketchbook pages from the past month or two; some master studies, some life drawing, and some media experimentation. I have other things to upload, but I just need to find a better way to get them onto the computer in quality. Portraits to come~

Did these about 2 months ago (I think...hard to keep track of time in that way). I have a number of quick 10 min portraits to upload as well, but they still need to be scanned/ photographed. If you can offer critique, please do so; and if you can enjoy, then enjoy!

After reading some very inspirational words from Jason Manley...no more bullshit. I am posting this so it has even a little bit of solidity in the real world.
Every time I've played video games instead of working on projects. Not gonna happen anymore. It is 6:50 in the morning and I've been up all night procrastinating.... And now I'm thinking about what could have been if I could have attended TAD. I am going to a school that costs Forty-thousand dollars a year. When I think about this and about how much time and money I'm wasting I cringe. I'm an idiot. I listen to the stories of amazing artists who dug themselves out of pits hundreds of times deeper than mine; and I'm not even in one. I have the whole world in front of me, and a jumping off point. I don't know where I'll be in a year. But I want to be better than the average ringling senior by then. I want to be at a professional level by the end of my sophomore year. And I'm going to make it happen. Fuck anyone who says differently, including me. My sketchbook should have been full 2 months ago. This means even less Sonic Adventure 2 Battle for some people and for that I am truly sorry (you know who you are). I don't know what this will sound like to other people or if they even care but I've just suddenly realized what I can and will do. And for you Very Potter Musical fans: It'll be totally awesome.

The self-portrait was done while looking at Jillian Tamaki's ink portraits; she has such an economy of line, and I crapped up by trying to put too much detail in mine. Lesson learned...

Inktober! and sketches

These sketchbook pages are studies from 2 James Montgomery Flagg inks and one of his figure paintings.  The Flagg book is an absolute must have. A great biography and hundreds of high res details of inks, watercolors, oils, charcoals, and much more. The other is a book on John Singer Sargent; the biography is great so far. Without further ado, here are my first pieces for Inktober (among other things)! Thanks Flagg!

doodles with Bobby Chiu

I lied...they weren't actually with him. But its a nice title huh?

I had the great pleasure of watching and listening to Bobby Chiu and Kei Acedera (www.imaginismstudios.com) do an excellent digital painting demonstration yesterday night from 8pm-10pm in the Ulla Searing Exhibition Hall at Ringling College of Art and Design. I came in late and thus had to find a spot on the floor, but it gave me a great vantage point to sketch while Bobby paused in his demo and was explaining some finer point or detail. Ive heard most of his talking points on various chiustreams and interviews he has conducted, but to hear it from him in person was very cool.

This morning, he and Kei will both be conducting portfolio reviews (mainly for the upperclassmen, of course), and talking about selling yourself as an artist, artistic independence, etc. Can't wait!
