Need to update more...

....or just wait til I can dump a bunch at once!

Just pencil, inks, etc. I've been looking at Jillian Tamaki's stuff a lot recently:

Couple of quick master copies in here; Noel Sickles, Fechin, etc
The 8th image was a drawing fom an old photograph heavily inspired by Noel Sickle's drawings:
The self-portrait was done while looking at Jillian Tamaki's ink portraits; she has such an economy of line, and I crapped up by trying to put too much detail in mine. Lesson learned...

Inktober! and sketches

Me and Philip Whisenhunt over at are participating in Inktober:

And so are many others! Join us if you'd like. It's simply an ink drawing a day for all of October. I need a good excuse to brush up (no pun intended) on my ink chops. These sketchbook pages are studies from 2 James Montgomery Flagg inks and one of his figure paintings. Here's a good page on Flagg with examples of his incredible talent:

And me with 2 of the books Ive recently checked out from Ringling's Kimbrough Library. If only I could own them...

The Flagg book is an absolute must have. A great biography and hundreds of high res details of inks, watercolors, oils, charcoals, and much more. The other is a book on John Singer Sargent; the biography is great so far. Without further ado, here are my first pieces for Inktober (among other things)! Thanks Flagg!
